A pair of NYHC punk classics are to receive a long overdue re-release on cassette.
Urban Waste‘s self-titled 1982 EP and Antidote‘s Thou Shalt Not Kill EP from 1983 are NYHC staples which influenced many punk, hardcore and metal bands.
Short and raw, they are highly sought-after, with original 7in copies changing hands for three-figure sums.
Since their release nearly 40 years ago, both have been bootlegged many times, with the odd official reissue along the way.
Despite the cassette culture which was prevalent at the time of release, neither had made it to tape – until now.
Pine Hill Records has announced a limited one-time reissue of each EP on June 11.
The hand-numbered coloured cassettes are pro-grade tapes with high quality WAV audio, and come complete with download cards.
The Urban Waste EP will be available #1-50 on white shell, #51-100 on black, and the Antidote EP #1-50 on green shell, #51-100 on clear.
Urban Waste, originally active from 1981-84, were more raw, visceral, and confrontational than their New York punk predecessors.
Contemporaries of Reagan Youth, early Beastie Boys and Bad Brains, they were short-lived. Roger Miret from NYHC legends Agnostic Front cites them as the band who got him into hardcore.
Antidote‘s Thou Shalt Not Kill EP is one of the most sought-after pieces of hardcore history, with only 1,000 copies originally pressed.
Both bands have reunited in recent years, leading to renewed interest in what were already classic NYHC releases.
