North East street-punk band Crashed Out have released a tribute to their hometown football team as their new single.

The track, Hebburn Town, is a typical upbeat stomper of a tune, which extols the virtues of non-league club Hebburn Town FC.

Hebburn won the FA Vase at Wembley in May, beating fellow Northern League side Consett 3-2, and were also promoted.

This season sees them playing in the Northern Premier League – the highest level at which they’ve ever competed.

Crashed Out’s song Hebburn Town picks up on the feelgood factor which the club has generated in the town over the last couple of years.

The lyrics sum it up: “There’s a new buzz I can feel it around/About the football team called Hebburn Town.”

The song is being played over the PA before games at their ground, known locally as ‘the Sportsy’.

Crashed Out vocalist Chris Wright said: “I’m from Hebburn and was inspired to write the song because of how well the football club is doing.

“It’s kind of the story of the underdog doing good. It’s also great to see local people getting behind the club and being proud of what they have achieved.

“I sent the song to the club and they play it now before a home game, which is great.”

New album

Since lockdown was lifted Crashed Out have been making a new album, which will be their seventh studio effort.

They have 15 new songs recorded, and are talking to a label about getting it released.

Formed in 1995, the band have won a loyal following in the UK and beyond with their raucous brand of punk rock ‘n’ roll.

Hebburn Town is their first new music since December 2020, when they released two tracks, Lockdown Blues and a cover of Motorhead’s Ace Of Spades, to raise money for Newcastle rock bar Trillians during the pandemic.

They contributed another new song, Against All Odds, to a Garry Bushell-curated compilation, Oi! 40 Years Untamed (reviewed here), on Pirates Press Records.
