Garage-rockers The Courettes have today released a new single and confirmed an autumn UK tour.
California contains two new tracks on red 7in vinyl, giving a tantalising glimpse of fresh music from the Danish-Brazilian duo.
It’s the latest taste of their long-awaited fourth album, The Soul Of The Fabulous Courettes, which is due on September 27 on Damaged Goods Records.
The rock ‘n’ roll sensations promise to sound bigger and better than ever before as they add to the blistering ramalama that’s seen them go down a storm at venues and festivals across the UK, Europe, USA and Japan.
Hitting the sweet spot straddling garage rock, girl groups and doo-wop, The Courettes build on the momentum of last album Back In Mono with a collection of songs that opens up their sonic scope while confronting dark, emotional matter.
Following the hip-trembling single Shake! earlier this year, The Courettes return with California b/w Run Run Runaway. Both songs feature on the album in slightly different form, and both include guest vocals from La La Brooks, legendary vocalist with New York girl group The Crystals.
“California is a song we wrote on our first tour in California last year,” explains guitarist and singer Flavia Couri. “We wanted to bring all the sunshine and some psychedelic vibes from The Byrds, the Laurel Canyon, and tons of 12-string guitars to our songwriting.
“But somehow the lyrics kept some black clouds. It talks about traveling and leaving your loved ones behind. Any musician on the road can relate to this. Although you can have a great time around the world, you’re always missing someone. Home is really where your love is.
“We are very proud of this track, and on top of it we have a guest vocalist – the legendary singer La La Brooks from The Crystals, the lead voice on the classic Da Doo Ron Ron, one of our favourite Phil Spector-produced songs of all time.
“To have La La singing with us is an absolute delight and honour. It’s so surreal that we haven’t even realised it has really happened!”
The Courettes are set to bring joy and rock ‘n’ roll celebration to stages across the UK in September and October. Miss them at your peril.
