Rising Los Angeles ska-punks The Interrupters have shared the first single from their eagerly-awaited fourth studio album.
In The Mirror is the first taste of In The Wild, which is set for release on August 5 on Hellcat/Epitaph Records.
Within a week of being posted on YouTube the song has already been viewed more than 250,000 times.
It’s a typically upbeat adrenalin-fueled track about being content with who you are, and coming to terms for the reasons behind it.
Singer Aimee Interrupter says of the track: “I fell into so many self-destructive patterns trying to come to terms with my childhood. I spent so long trying to run from the pain. No matter how far I ran, there I was. I realised I needed to make peace with who I saw in the mirror.”
The Interrupters have spent the last decade establishing themselves as one of the best-loved of the latest wave of ska-punk bands, and have been championed by Rancid’s Tim Armstrong.
Last year saw them support Green Day, Weezer, and Fall Out Boy on the Hella Mega Tour, and 2022 sees them play the Slam Dunk Festival in the UK, before returning to the road this summer with Flogging Molly in the US.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, Aimee, her partner and guitarist Kevin Bivona, and his younger twin brothers, Jesse (drums) and Justin (bass), built a home studio in their garage.
In this cocoon-like environment, Aimee found the strength to confront the demons of her past, and together the band created what they say is their most personal album yet.
Taking in breathless punk rock, doo-wop, gospel and dancehall as well as the band’s customary nods to the lineage of two-tone, the album is infused with an uplifting spirit.
Guests include Tim Armstrong, Rhoda Dakar from The Bodysnatchers, Alex Désert and Greg Lee from Hepcat, and The Skints. The band penned the album’s 14 songs together and Kevin Bivona produced.
In The Wild will be released on digital, CD and vinyl. It is the follow-up to 2018’s Fight The Good Fight, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart.
The Interrupters’ most recent release was last year’s live album Live In Tokyo, recorded at a festival in Japan in 2019 (and reviewed here).
