London and Brighton as you’ve never seen them before are the ‘stars’ of a new video shared by ska-punks The Bar Stool Preachers.
Footage of empty streets in some of the busiest parts of the UK at the height of the Covid-19 crisis accompanies new song State Of Emergency, bringing home the gravity and bizarre nature of the situation.
Just before lockdown was announced, the Brighton-based band took two songs that were being held for their eagerly-awaited third album and rewrote them to reflect their thoughts and feelings on the times we are all experiencing now.
Calling in favours, they managed to get into the studio just a few days before lockdown went into effect in the UK, and banged out these amazing tracks.
Engineered by folk-punk whizz Jake Rousham (The Levellers) and the lads themselves, they are some of the most socially-aware punk/rock‘n‘roll of recent times – fun, topical and politically scathing all at the same time.
They made the songs free to download from their website here (and available to stream in all the usual places). There‘s a donate button for anyone with a couple of quid to spare, from which they will donate to healthcare workers and their families in the UK.
They have already shared the friends and fan-featuring video for When This World Ends, the other track which makes up the Soundtrack To Your Apocalypse EP. It shows the band, friends, and fans, in their quarantined environments, singing along to frontman TJ McFaull’s topical and uplifting lyrics.
