Manchester hardcore punks Incisions have released their first new music in more than a year in the shape of blistering new single Gasoline.
Out now digitally on TNSRecords, it’s their first release since second album Bliss (reviewed here) in April 2021. That was one of our top five albums of last year (the full top 40 is here).
Bursting into life with the crash of a cymbal and a driving bassline, Gasoline explodes into a wall of feedback-drenched guitars.
It’s slightly slower than the breakneck pace we’re used to from Incisions, but not much – it’s still over and done with in one minute and 39 seconds.
Gasoline is the sound of 80s American hardcore being dragged through the streets of rainy north-west England.
It retains the bite and belligerence that has endeared Incisions to fans around the global DIY punk community.
Lyrically, Gasoline tackles a system designed to work us to dust and, as we’ve come to expect, the message is delivered with aggression and precision.
‘Modern life is never fun’ may be a pessimistic assessment of the current state of the world, but more new music from Incisions is a welcome move in the right direction.
Incisions were formed in 2015 and have been honing their sound ever since. This is what being young, working class punk in the North of England sounds like.
Since releasing their self-titled debut LP through TNS at the end of 2018, Incisions have played alongside some of the biggest names in punk, as well as selling out their own headline shows.
With frontman Jordan dropping the guitar/vocalist role, everyone in the band can now focus on being the best they can and what they do.
Expect the latest incarnation of Incisions to be heavier, angrier and faster than ever before.
