Crapfest, a Liverpool festival showcasing underground DIY punk, garage, and alternative rock bands from across the UK, is on its way back.
The all-day event is hosted by Birkenhead junk-punk duo Crapsons, and raises money for various charities.
The inaugural event took place in 2019 at Phase One, and every artist played to packed crowds all day.
Bands like Crapsons, Healthy Junkies, Habits, Salt The Snail and others graced the stage, helping to raise over £400 for Aching Arms, a charity which helps bereaved parents.
The 2020 event was cancelled due to Covid-19, and staged virtually on social media instead.
Acts including Tokky Horror, Pete Bentham, Uncle Peanut, False Advertising and Crapsons streamed live performances to thousands of people.
They raised money for independent music venues, at a time when they needed it more than ever.
Fundraising
This year’s Crapfest, on Sunday 29 August, is raising money for the Open Door Centre – a local mental health charity.
It will be held at venues across Liverpool city centre, including EBGBs, Jacaranda and Phase One.
The Crapfest Class of 2021 includes two-piece junk-punk outfit Crapsons, Manchester hardcore merchants Incisions, (whose latest album is reviewed here) and Stockton garage duo Mouses.
Marshall Records’ latest acquisition, the new-look Gen And The Degenerates bring their Liverpool alternative rock show home, while Salt The Snail, the inflatable and crowd-surfing madmen from Widnes, make a welcome return.
Local experimental jazz-punks the Mighty Bossmags, beard-hating oddballs Wanweird, Halifax hardcore crew Burning Flag (whose new album is reviewed here) and Belfast feminist punks Problem Patterns will also take the stage.
There’s North Wales hardcore from Spam Javelin, skatepunk from Oldham from The Crash Mats, and local punk trio Tits Up..
Alternative screamo trio Kin will open the festival, whose bill also includes Liverpool alt-rockers Takotsubo Men, noise-makers Elevant, new Birmingham punk band Wave Of Sheep, and ’70s-inspired fun punks Last Reserves.
