Fun Lovin’ Criminals‘ acclaimed debut album Come Find Yourself is 25 years old this year, and to celebrate the coolest band around have announced a UK tour.
The multi-platinum-selling trio, formed in New York in 1993, hope to help fans forget the lockdown gloom of the past year by bringing their eclectic mix of hip hop, rock, blues, jazz, R&B, punk, and to a venue near you.
Frontman Huey Morgan said: “With the world in the toilet, and all the strife and bullshit that’s been going on, here is the light at the end of the tunnel. The FLC are accepting the United Nations’ invitation to be the first real motherfuckers to get back to making rock ‘n’roll shows great again. No huge bubbles or liquor-free silly-ass gigs, just some real New Yorkers bringing you the best in live music! You are welcome.”
As well as marking the 25th anniversary of the band’s acclaimed debut album Come Find Yourself, it’s also 20 years since Loco, their highest-charting single, and the end of a horrendous global pandemic for pretty much everybody. Not that the Crims generally need an excuse to party.
They burst onto the music scene in 1996, gate-crashing the euphoric Brit-pop party with their blend of styles and effortless Lower East Side charm, with their musical mash-up giving their songs a timelessness that means they’re still relevant nearly three decades on.
Debut single Scooby Snacks, famed for sampling Tarantino movies Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, launched a career that saw Come Find Yourself remain in the UK album chart for two years. FLC performed an infamously raucous set on the Pyramid main stage at Glastonbury in 1999 and have been bringing the party to venues worldwide ever since.
Loco is probably best remembered for sound-tracking a sun-drenched Miller beer ad in which Huey can be found riffing the song’s unmistakably cool, Latin-infused guitar lick on the roof of car … in a traffic jam. It became the FLC’s highest-charting single, reaching No 5 in the UK – as did its parent album.
Still a mainstay on the festival circuit in the UK and Europe, FLC are Europe’s best-loved “cousins from New York,” even though charismatic frontman Huey – also a BBC 6 Music presenter – now lives in the UK.
