Echo & the Bunnymen, one of the most influential British bands of the last 40 years, have rescheduled their forthcoming UK and Ireland tour until 2022.
Formed in Liverpool in 1978, the band became one of the most popular of the post-punk era. They were due to play 20 dates in May and June 2021, but have had to rearrange them due to continuing coronavirus restrictions.
The dates will now take place in February and March 2022, with fans who have already bought tickets advised to keep them safe, as they will remain valid for the rescheduled shows.
The tour will celebrate the songs that have brought the band nine Top 20 albums during their 40-year career, and a string of Top 20 hits, including The Killing Moon, The Back of Love, Never Stop, Seven Seas and Nothing Lasts Forever.
Frontman Ian McCulloch, who, with guitarist Will Sergeant remains the core of the band, said: “Well then, here are the rescheduled dates for our 2022 UK tour. I can’t wait to be out there with the band on all those stages in all those towns and cities, doing what I love most, playing our songs to our brilliant fans and, hopefully, making all our lives a little bit happier along the way”.
The band’s first four seminal albums – Crocodiles, Heaven Up Here, Porcupine and Ocean Rain – have been a major influence for acts such as Coldplay, The Killers and The Flaming Lips, while later albums like Evergreen, What Are You Going To Do With Your Life and Siberia demonstrate what an amazing body of work the band have.
Their most recent album, The Stars, The Oceans & The Moon was released in 2018, with Q magazine simply calling it “magical”.
Echo & the Bunnymen remain revered in popular culture, with the highly acclaimed and culturally phenomenal Netflix series Stranger Things using their song Nocturnal Me, while 13 Reasons Why has used The Killing Moon and My Kingdom.
