Ska-punk band The Interrupters have welcomed in 2021 by revealing that they’re planning not one but TWO new albums.
The band, formed in Los Angeles, California, in 2011, looked set to take a huge step forward last year.
They were due to spend the summer on the epic Hella Mega stadium tour opening up for Weezer, Fall Out Boy, and Green Day.
However, the worldwide coronavirus pandemic had other ideas, and after playing a 10-date UK tour early in the year with The Skints and Buster Shuffle, The Interrupters were left kicking their heels.
They made the most of the unexpected spare time, however, and vocalist Aimee and the Bivona brothers Kevin (guitar), Justin (bass) and Jesse (drums) spent the time writing new material.
They also recorded a cover of Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy, which raised their profile after being featured in Netflix original series The Umbrella Academy.
A statement issued by the band on their Facebook page as they said goodbye to 2020, said: “We are excited to start the new year with a new energy centered around healing and finding joy again.
“We have spent the majority of our time as a band on tour. We are always reminding ourselves how lucky we are to be able to travel and share our music with the world, and for that we have truly been grateful.
“After this brutal past year we see more than ever how important live music is to us all. It heals us. It connects us. It means everything to us.
“We miss you, we love you, and are hopeful (we realllllly hope) that 2021 will be a year we can all get together and celebrate again.
“We’ve been writing so many songs for a new album and even put together a live album in the meantime (more details on that coming very soon). Until then, here’s to you and yours! Happy New Year!”
The band, who have collaborated with Rancid’s Tim Armstrong, have three studio albums under their belt, with the most recent, Fight The Good Fight, released in 2018.
