Hardcore punks Throwing Stuff have delivered a furious anti-monarchy anthem, No Gods, No Kings, on the eve of King Charles III’s coronation.

The single, released on TNSRecords, captures the band’s frustration at a nation whose government pumps millions in public money into a pompous ceremony while ordinary people struggle to afford to heat their homes.

No Gods, No Kings sees the Manchester-based band – known for their fast, raw, aggressive style and politically-charged lyrics – demand a more egalitarian society instead of the established order as they rage: “I don’t believe in no god and I don’t want to save the king.”

The band said: “This weekend’s coronation highlights the massive inequality inherent in Britain. The concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a small elite will be broadcast around the world, with gold carriages and shiny crowns studded with stolen jewels.

“The British monarchy are the pinnacle of an establishment that believe they’re above the law, and where the will of the people is often subordinated to the interests of the ruling class.

“Throwing Stuff want a world where there are no gods and no kings so we can start to move towards fairer and more just society. The voice of the people must be heard in protest of the monarchy and the establishment.”

Vocalist Ben Small adds: “This country is built on the blood of the lower classes, both in the UK and the nations colonised in the name of the royals.

“The concept of monarchy is an outdated tradition rooted in historical and cultural customs that discriminate based on class, race, heritage and gender.

“A society where power is concentrated in the hands of a small, privileged group is untenable for real working people. We have no need for such distinguished silver spoon gobblers tapping the national purse when poverty is at an all-time high, when the cost of living continues to rise, when refugees are demonised by those in government. There needs to be No Gods, No Kings.”

No Gods, No Kings is the second of three singles Throwing Stuff are releasing in 2023. It is available to stream on all platforms from today. It follows I Hate This Place, which was their first new material in two years.

Throwing Stuff are Ben Small (vocals), Kieran Kelly (guitar), Jamie Carruthers (bass) and Alun Matthews (drums).
