Hardcore band Throwing Stuff are back with their first new music in three years ahead of a rare live show at Manchester Punk Festival.
I Hate This Place is the first of three singles being released this year by the band, who play a fast, thrashy, no-nonsense brand of punk.
The four-piece are based in Manchester, though their singer Ben lives and works in Myanmar (or Burma, as it used to be known), which limits their activity somewhat.
I Hate This Place sees Throwing Stuff return to their trademark brand of incendiary hardcore, capturing the essence of their explosive live shows.
The track sees Throwing Stuff channel their fury at the racists who vocalist Ben finds himself face-to-face with where he lives and works in south-east Asia.
“The irony isn’t lost on me that I have personally encountered more white, small-minded bigots halfway around the world in Myanmar than I ever have in the UK.
“There is enough Islamophobia within Myanmar popular discourse without Britain exporting its finest arseholes to teach in the country’s schools,” he said.
I Hate This Place is the first of three singles the band have coming out in 2023, with the subsequent releases due in May and June. It’s streaming everywhere now.
It’s their first new material since A.C.H.I.Y.A.B., which was recorded during the pandemic across Manchester and Myanmar, to raise money for Black Lives Matter UK and Food Not Bombs Myanmar.
Throwing Stuff, who released their acclaimed debut album Fit, Fine & Well, back in 2017, play MPF2023 on 8 April.
