Punk legends the UK Subs have today announced the dates for their farewell UK tour as the band continues winding down.
With frontman Charlie Harper now 78, one of the mainstays of British punk have decided to call time on their never-ending touring.
They have just returned from a farewell tour of Europe, and will be embarking on their final full tour of the UK this September.
They will play 16 gigs in England, Scotland, and Wales over a 24-day period, starting on 7 September in Tunbridge Wells.
After playing around the country, including an appearance at North East Calling all-dayer in Newcastle on 23 September, they will bring down the curtain on 45 years of touring with two gigs in London at the end of the month.
They will both be at the legendary 100 Club on 29 and 30 September – a venue the band have played numerous times.
After that, the UK Subs will play only selected festival dates, and perhaps the odd weekend, as and when the fancy takes them.
Formed in London in 1976, the UK Subs enjoyed their biggest successes between 1979 and 1981, when they had four Top 30 albums in the UK.
Their classic 1979 debut Another Kind Of Blues reached No 21, 1980’s Brand New Age and 1981’s Diminished Responsibility both made No 18, but the biggest hit of all was the live set Crash Course, which peaked at No 8.
That’s perhaps fitting, as the band have never stopped touring, even during the late 1980s and early ’90s, when punk had runs its commercial course and went back underground.
The UK Subs have enjoyed something of a renaissance in recent years, completing their A-Z run of albums beginning with every letter of the alphabet, with enough left in the tank for two albums of covers versions and a final set of original material, Reverse Engineering, in 2022.
