Jarrow streetpunks Crashed Out have released a new version of the Angelic Upstarts classic Solidarity to raise money for the Ukraine.
Solidarity Ukraine is available now exclusively from the band’s Bandcamp page, with all money raised from sales going to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
Singer Chris Wright explained: “Solidarity was originally wrote by Thomas ‘Mensi’ Mensforth from the band Angelic Upstarts.
“We changed some of the lyrics to reflect the strength, courage, determination and solidarity of the ordinary people of Ukraine who are standing up and fighting back against oppression and an unjust war that’s been thrust upon them.”
Crashed Out are on a bit of a roll this year after releasing their sixth full-length album Against All Odds (reviewed here) in April.
They also released a split album with the Upstarts, The Dirty Dozen, back in 2012, after Chris filled in for Mensi when he took a break from the band a few years earlier.
He was instrumental in organising the official memorial night to Mensi in his hometown of South Shields in April (reviewed here).
The Upstarts reconvened one last time at Rebellion Festival in Blackpool on August 6 to pay a final tribute to Mensi, who died from Covid-19 complications in December, aged 65.
