SINGLE REVIEW: The Slackers – Windowland/I Almost Lost You (Pirates Press Records)
New York City reggae band The Slackers have released a new single which will have vinyl collectors drooling.
The Slackers have been thrilling ska and reggae fans for almost 30 years with what singer Vic Ruggiero calls their ‘Jamaican rock ’n’ roll’.
Last year saw them re-release their classic live album Live At Ernesto’s on double 12in vinyl via Pirates Press Records for its 20th anniversary.
They also released a very special 12in single featuring two new songs, Nobody’s Listening and Sleep Outside – two bright, upbeat tracks meant to get everyone up dancing and singing along.
September 2020 saw them release Blue, a trumpet-driven slice of classic-sounding reggae which urged people to vote for the Democrats in the US election, rather than giving Republican President Donald Trump a second term.
Fast forward a year and the band took delved into their vault for Love I Bring, a limited edition 7in single featuring Japanese dancehall artists Papa B, with Cat Prozack, an old song by Sic & Mad – Ara, Marcus and Vic from The Slackers – on the B-side.
Now they’re released a new single which even by Pirates Press standards is a stunning piece to add to any collection. It features two new tracks, Windowland and I Almost Lost You.
They are pressed on 12in UV digitally printed vinyl, which features translucent “windows”, so you can see right through it! It looks like a two-sided stained glass window, and the music’s not bad either – typically sunny-sounding Slackers tunes.
