Chicago skatepunks Counterpunch have released a 7in single featuring their first new songs in seven years.
Handbook For The Recently Debriefed is out now via Thousand Islands Records (North America)/SBAM Records (EU).
A scorching commentary on the society around them, the two new tracks are the first new Counterpunch songs since the band’s 2014 album Bruises (available on Bandcamp HERE).
Handbook For The Recently Debriefed is a fast-paced slice of melodic punk which will appeal to fans of NOFX, No Use For A Name and Face To Face.
The flip side, We, The Role, is even better, galloping along at a fair old pace, and expressing their sadness at how America suffered under Trump’s toxic presidency.
Formed in 2004, the band’s metal-tinged skatepunk, inspired by the Epitaph and Fat Wreck era of modern punk rock, has seen them tour around the world alongside some of the scene’s biggest names, including Rise Against, Strung Out and The Swellers.
They describe their own sound as “frenetic punk rock with just enough artificial sweeteners added in to appease the ladies”.
The current line-up features founding frontman Eric Hausser (vocals/guitar), Jared Rohde (bass/vocals), Jim Margle (drums) and
Kyle Tilev (guitar), with the latter making his recording debut with the band, even though he’s been a member since 2016.
They have played festivals such as Punk Rock Bowling, Groezrock, Brakrock Ecofest, Rebellion, Riot Fest and Punk Rock Holiday, among others.
The band has recently finished recording their fourth full length album with Chris Fogal at Black and Bluhm Recording Studios.
