Slade, one of the most successful bands of the ’70s, are to have their biggest albums reissued on deluxe vinyl, starting with the classic Slayed?
Their third studio album, originally released in November 1972, is being re-released by BMG, hitting the shops on September 3.
The new version of the album, which reached No.1 in the charts on its original release, will be on limited edition yellow and black splatter vinyl.
Slayed? remained in the charts for 34 weeks and was certified silver in early 1973.
Its 10 tracks include No. 1 single Mama Weer All Crazee Now, and Gudbuy T’Jane, which reached No.2 in the charts.
It showed Slade in their foot-stomping prime, and NME hailed it as “one of the greatest rock’n’roll releases ever”.
Glam rock stars
Slade, who evolved from so-so ’60s skinheads into chart-topping ’70s boot-boy rockers, were stars of the glam rock era.
Their career declined when punk arrived, but in many ways their riffing guitars and anthemic choruses paved the way for it.
Slade were Noddy Holder (vocals/rhythm guitar), Dave Hill (lead guitar), Jim Lea (bass, piano, violin) and Don Powell (drums).
They released six smash hit albums during the decade, including three No.1s, and had a run of 17 consecutive Top 20 singles.
