SINGLE REVIEW: Bent Out Of Shape/The Boldness split 7in (Demons Run Amok Entertainment)
Dutch streetpunks Bent Out Of Shape are back with a new split single – a split 7in shared with The Boldness, an Oi! band from Bali, Indonesia.
Both contribute two tracks to the record, which was due out on June 18 but is slightly delayed at the pressing plant.
Bent Out Of Shape, from Fryslân, kick things off with True Colors, an upbeat slice of melodic streetpunk about the value of real friendship.
Complete with gruff vocals and ‘woah-oh’ call and response choruses, it’s possibly my favourite song by them so far.
Hot on its heels comes We Rule OK! which ups the ante with plenty of melody and a great singalong chorus.
They’re exactly the sort of band I’d like to see at Rebellion Festival when it returns in 2022, and I’d recommend checking out their seven-track 2020 Demo (reviewed here) and debut EP Who Laughs Last (reviewed here).
The Boldness are new to me, but a little research reveals they’re a trio who’ve been around since 2015. And by the sound of them, they’re very much influenced by classic British oi!
There are shades of The Business on The Stomper cover Bintang Boys, with its football terrace-style chanting, while Skinhead Warriors reminds me of The Last Resort, complete with a nifty mid-song bass solo.
