The Charlatans, one of the Madchester era’s most enduring bands, have announced a special boxset to coincide with their belated 30th anniversary tour.

A Head Full Of Ideas is a career-spanning set which will be released on Then Recordings through Republic Of Music on October 15.

Containing five LPs and an exclusive 7in, it sums up their journey from 1990 Manchester scene hopefuls to one of the UK’s best-loved bands.

The accompanying tour begins at Belfast Limelight on November 22, and finishes in Aberdeen almost a month later.

A Head Full Of Ideas belatedly marks The Charlatans’ 30th anniversary.

The Charlatans have had 13 Top 40 studio albums (three No 1s) and 22 hit singles (four Top 10s).

Their rollercoaster highs have been accompanied by some shattering lows, any of which could have felled a less-resilient band.

They range from nervous breakdowns to near-bankruptcy and the deaths of two founder members. But somehow, they have not just carried on but adapted and transformed.

The classic Charlatans sound – driving Hammond organ, Northern Soul and house-influenced rhythms, swaggering guitars and Tim Burgess’s sunny yet yearning vocal – is instantly recognisable.

Despite everything they’ve been through their music is more relevant than ever. Indeed, their most recent album, 2017’s Different Days, has been described as “one of their best ever”.

The boxset is a diverse collection spanning their hits, classic live performances, unheard demos, rarities and remixes.

There’s also an exclusive Original Demos 7in featuring Indian Rope/The Only One I Know, and other memorabilia.

There are 3LP and 2CD versions featuring the hits and live album, and a CD/LP of just the hits.
