New Zealand-born but London-based punks Desperate Measures managed to escape the Covid-19 madness of the last few months by writing their first new material in three years.
The reignited ’80s band used the time between lockdowns for some cathartic writing and recording sessions, and the first taste of those gatherings arrives today with The Rich-Tual, a bullet of classic punk reloaded for the pandemic generation.
It’s a full-blooded punk ‘n’ roll ripper which is certainly not for the faint-hearted as frontman Eugene Butcher sings “fuck the system, before the system fucks you!”
Recorded at The Brook Studios in South London by Andy Brook, The Rich-Tual is taken from a forthcoming mini-album that will be released this summer by British rock n’ roll label Easy Action (home to Iggy and the Stooges, The Damned’s Brian James, Marc Bolan and T-Rex and Lords Of The New Church).
The video, assembled by Craig Temple, perfectly captures the intensity of The Rich-Tual and is also featured this coming Saturday, February 20, as part of the online global music festival Vive Le Rockdown 2.
It’s been organised by leading music mag Vive Le Rock, and is available on VLR’s YouTube channel, starting at 8.30pm.
Other acts featured include New Model Army, Steve Diggle from Buzzcocks, Wayne Hussey from The Mission, Vice Squad, Wonk Unit, Maid Of Ace, Buster Shuffle, The Speedways, Los Fastidios, and many more.
All proceeds from donations will go to VLR’s roadies/crew fund, in aid of the hard-working folk who help gigs happen, but have seen their livelihood snatched away by the pandemic.
