EP REVIEW: Teethin – Greed Between The Lines (Silent Kid Records)
Teethin are a new band from the Welsh valleys who combine the energy of punk with the pulse of electro, dance, and rock music.
Formed in late 2024 and led by Greek-Welsh vocalist James Minas, this is their debut release and it’s an EP which manages to sound chaotic and cathartic at the same time.
Made by a crew of long-time friends and collaborators, Teethin came together to speak for the under-represented and overlooked through music that hits as hard emotionally as it does sonically.
They tackle classism, cultural apathy, and political blame, delivered through visceral vocals and pounding, genre-blending production which will speak to many different tribes.
The five-track EP kicks off with latest single Throwin Shapes, which looks at how society’s problems are blamed on the most marginalised, while the fat cats reap the rewards.
Lara Scoffed is based on the disillusionment with the country and the industry Teethin have found themselves in, while Dud is about frustration with artists and bands playing at being working class.
Perhaps the highlight is My Generation, which has a haunting, dystopian feel as it calls out keyboard warriors. Minas delivers withering observations over a low-key intro, muttering: “Something isn’t right within. Medicate, facilitate…”. But the anger and intensity increase until, as the song reaches its climax, he demands, repeatedly, “Say it to my fucking face then.”
Finally, Broke The Light delves into what transpires when we pin all our happiness on another person. Over a juddering beat and crunching bass, Minas alternates between a fatigued whisper and vengeful roar.
