One of the UK’s brightest modern punk bands, Grade 2, today released the first taste of their new material.
Over the course of four albums and countless live shows, the Isle of Wight trio have forged a reputation as one of the best new bands on the scene.
Their last two albums, 2019’s Graveyard Island (reviewed here) and 2023’s Grade 2 (reviewed here), have seen them working with Rancid’s Tim Armstrong.
Now they have unveiled new single Hanging Onto You, via Hellcat Records, which blends their signature raw energy with a fresh, vulnerable honesty.
It is inspired by the heartfelt, emotional intensity of traditional Latin and Mexican love songs, and the classic punk love songs of bands like the Buzzcocks, The Rifles, and the Ramones.
“We wanted to create a song that is honest and vulnerable, something that everyone can relate to,” say the band. “The song portrays a position I’m sure we’ve all been in — not being completely perfect, but always willing to give your all.”
The single was self-produced by the band, and features Kevin Bivona (The Interrupters) on Hammond organ, synth, and piano.
The track arrives with a video which captures the raw, unfiltered energy of a live Grade 2 show.
Already tested in recent setlists, Hanging Onto You has quickly cemented itself as a natural fit among their material.
Hanging Onto You sees Grade 2 growing as songwriters while staying true to the essence of their sound. It’s the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the band, setting the stage for what’s to come.
