DIY indie-punk duo The Lovely Eggs have today announced the lead single from their first new album in four years.
My Mood Wave will be released digitally on 9 February, with a 7in version to follow on 15 March. That can be pre-ordered HERE, and will include an exclusive B-side, Crab Shell.
“My Mood Wave is kind of an internal thought monologue,” says Eggs singer and guitarist Holly Ross.
“It’s a brain on a surfboard, trying to navigate the barrage of daily shit that gets washed up each day. It’s a coping mechanism handbook for people who sometimes find the world too much.”
The 7in will be on aquamarine transparent vinyl, with the now-customary mind-bulging artwork by Casey Raymond.
In true Lovely Eggs style, the first 250 copies ordered direct from the band’s website will come with a free Lovely Eggs air freshener, as reflected on the single artwork.
The album, which will follow in May, and be accompanied by a 10-date UK tour, is their seventh, and the follow-up to 2020’s indie chart-topper I Am Moron (reviewed here).
Since then they have made their own TV series EGGS TV and hosted it on YouTube, dueted with Iggy Pop on standalone single I, Moron, plated loads of gigs and festivals and spent two years fighting to save Lancaster Music Co-Op, a community rehearsal rooms and recording studio in their hometown.
Holly and her husband David Blackwell remain fiercely independent, recording the album at home, with production work from Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann. It was then mixed in his studio in upstate New York.
My Mood Wave is the first taste of their new material, and more details on the new album will follow, with a 10-date tour starting in Glasgow on 23 May.
“It is going to be frigging joyous to reunite with all our Eggheads across the UK and just have a big party each show,” said Holly.
“We’ve missed it! People know by now what to expect from us and we plan to bring it back with full force next May. Expect egg-shaped mayhem.”
