DIY indie-punk duo The Lovely Eggs have today announced a new tour for May 2024 – and a new album.
The Lovely Eggs have become one of indie music’s most beloved bands, despite the fact they’re completely DIY.
Married couple Holly Ross (guitar and vocals) and David Blackwell (drums) operate on their own terms, making music, records, art and TV shows, as well as playing sold-out shows to fans around the country who have become hooked on their observational and often-bizarre lyrics.
They have no management, booking agent, record label or publisher, but their most recent album, I Am Moron, made it to No 1 in the Official UK Independent Charts.
Their most recent single, the confusingly titled I, Moron, was a collaboration with celebrity fan and godfather of punk Iggy Pop, and made No 1 in the Official UK Physical and Vinyl charts upon release.
Despite the fact there’s only two of them, The Lovely Eggs have a powerful raw sound which sounds like a full band, and they are known for their ferocious yet joyous live performances.
The Lovely Eggs are currently in the process of finishing the new album, their seventh, whose release will co-incide with their first headline shows in two years.
“We’ve pretty much spent the last two years fighting to save Lancaster Music Co-op, which is a community rehearsal rooms and recording studio where we live,” said Holly.
“We’ve put a lot of headline shows on the back burner because we were spending most of our time wrangling with Lancaster City Council over a long-term lease.
“We also had an idiotic idea to make a six-part TV show with artist Casey Raymond, so add that into the mix and we’ve kept ourselves pretty busy.
Positive future
“Eggs TV is now complete and out there in the world, plus we’ve finally got a lease and long-term security for Lancaster Music Co-op, so we feel we can go on tour to celebrate, knowing that other musicians and bands in the area now have a positive future.”
“It is going to be frigging joyous to reunite with all our Eggheads across the UK and just have a big party each show.
“We’ve missed it! People know by now what to expect from us and we plan to bring it back with full force next May. Expect egg-shaped mayhem.”
