Philadelphia punks The Menzingers have today shared a boot-stomping new single and teased fans about a new album.
There’s No Place In This World For Me finds them exploring an Americana/roots sound as vocalist Greg Barnett pushes the limits of the natural rasp and twang in his distinct vocal tone.
Recorded at Sonic Ranch in April 2023, it was produced by Brad Cook (Waxahatchee, Kevin Morby), mixed by Jon Low (Taylor Swift, The National) and mastered by Ryan Smith (Coldplay, Smashing Pumpkins).
Drawing inspiration from both the gritty punk rock tradition and the introspective storytelling of folk music, the band has come up with an epic-sounding song which will tug at the heartstrings in the way only they can.
Their blue collar punk rock ‘n’ roll has the knack of somehow managing to fill the listener with despair and delight at the same time, and There’s No Place In This World For Me is a perfect example of that.
The band said: “Very excited to share our new single There’s No Place In This World For Me from our upcoming album that … well, we can’t go into details just yet, but trust us, it’s coming soon!
“This song is an anthem for anyone stuck between where they are and where they want to be.”
The Menzingers, featuring singing guitarists Greg Barnett and Tom May, bassist Eric Keen, and drummer Joe Godino, formed as teenagers in their hometown of Scranton, PA in 2006, later relocating to Philadelphia.
After two well-received albums on small indie labels, the band made their Epitaph debut with 2012’s On The Impossible Past, which was voted Album of the Year by Absolute Punk, Punk News and Rock Sound.
Fourth album Rented World (2014) earned them further praise and lots more fans, and in 2017 The Menzingers released their fifth album After The Party, which landed on a whole host of best-of-the-year lists.
Their most recent studio album was 2019’s Hello Exile (reviewed here), and they released a reimagined version, From Exile (reviewed here), a year later.
There’s No Place In This World For Me is the second new song they have released this year, after the upbeat single Bad Actors in March. It was chosen by the American football team Philadelphia Eagles as part of their official gameday soundtrack.
