Hugh Cornwell has announced a UK tour for January 2024, with indie-pop band The Primitives as his special guests.
As leader of The Stranglers, Cornwell was the main writer of most of the band’s most memorable songs across 10 stellar albums.
Their 1977 debut Rattus Norvegicus featured classics like Peaches, (Get A) Grip (An Yourself) and Hanging Around, while follow-ups No More Heroes, Black And White and The Raven further consolidated Cornwell’s stature as a unique songwriter and musician.
Masterclass
His lyrics to Golden Brown (from 1981 album La Folie) and their multiple meanings acted as a masterclass in songwriting, with the song reaching No 2 in the UK singles chart. After releasing his final album with the band, 10, in 1990, Cornwell embarked on a solo career.
Fast forward to today and he is still enjoying an illustrious solo journey. In 2022 he released his latest album Moments Of Madness.
Filled with acute, pithy and witty observations, the record has received widespread critical acclaim from the likes of Uncut, Mojo, Louder Than War, Vive Le Rock and others.
Now, Cornwell has announced a run of UK tour dates for the beginning of 2024. Kicking off in Bury St Edmunds on 17 January, the eight-date tour will see him joined by very special guests The Primitives.
The indie-pop band from Coventry are best known for their 1988 international hit single Crash, which paved the way for a string of hit singles.
Constant members
Formed in 1984, disbanded in 1992 and reformed in 2009, the band’s two constant members are vocalist Tracy Tracy and guitarist Paul Court, and the duo have been joined by drummer Tig Williams since 1987.
Their music sits somewhere on the spectrum between indie-rock and indie-pop, with a style straddling power-pop, new-wave and post-punk.
