Californian punk legends Rancid have today announced a new album, Tomorrow Never Comes, and released the title track as its lead single.
The band, who never seem to make a bad record, are hoping to continue that with their 10th studio offering, which is out on June 2 via Epitaph Records.
To give us a taste of what’s to come, the Berkeley four-piece released the video for the title track Tomorrow Never Comes, which is their first new music since 2017’s Trouble Maker album.
Although long-time members Tim Armstrong (guitar & vocals), Matt Freeman (bass & vocals) and Lars Frederiksen (guitar & vocals) are all in their 50s, they have the same energy they did when the band started out in 1991.
Branden Steinekert (drums) is the youngster of the band at a sprightly 44, but his joining the band in 2006 seems to have given Rancid renewed vitality.
Tomorrow Never Comes is produced by longtime collaborator, Bad Religion guitarist and Epitaph founder Brett Gurewitz.
The title track highlights Rancid’s collective ear for melodic rock hooks and catchy, sing-a-long choruses, and the usual wailing guitars and punishing rhythms are present and correct.
The album will contain 16 blistering tracks, most of them barely making the two-and-a-half-minute mark, and full of the same gritty, straightforward punk-with-a-purpose that Rancid have become known worldwide for.
Their music confronts political and social issues, while balancing personal tales of love, loss, and heartbreak with attitude.
You can see Rancid play in the UK this summer at their recently upgraded OVO Arena Wembley show on June 20, and Manchester O2 Victoria Warehouse on June 21. Both shows have The Bronx and Grade 2 as special guests, with The Skints also appearing in London.
