Brighton’s queer-punk torchbearers Lambrini Girls bring cat-calling white van men to account in the latest taste of their forthcoming debut EP.
White Van is the furious second single taken from You’re Welcome, which will be released in 19 May via Big Scary Monsters.
Full of strident vocals, rumbling bass and slashing guitars over a furious backbeat, it’s already a live favourite.
Said the band: “This one goes out to all of the cis men with their dick out behind the wheel, screaming at us in the street without consequence. You’re an idiot and no one wants to fuck you.”
The EP also includes previous single Help Me I’m Gay, which singer Phoebe Lunny used to come out to her parents.
Lambrini Girls take their cues from the riot grrrl movement of the ’90s as well as more modern feminist bands like Savages.
Incendiary live shows alongside the likes of Shame, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and Gilla Band have built them a growing following, and they will be doing their first headline UK tour in May/June.
They’re also hitting the festival circuit this summer, with appearances at The Great Escape, 2000 Trees, Truck Festival and Rebellion, as well as opening for Iggy Pop at his Dog Day Afternoon at London’s Crystal Palace on 1 July.
Other tracks on the EP include Boys In The Band, which calls out abusers in the scene; Terf Wars, which explains why transphobia has no place in feminism; Mr Lovebomb, which looks at altering behaviour in relationships; and Lads Lads Lads, about toxic masculinity.
The eight-track release is completed by live versions of Big Dick Energy and Fuck Myself, both originally released on DIY feminist compilations.
