EP REVIEW: Suzi Moon – Call The Shots

Suzi Moon is probably more familiar to most music fans as Suzi Heartbreaker, the guitarist in all-girl LA punk band Civet.
She’s also been the frontwoman of LA trio Turbulent Hearts, and co-founded garage/punk/stoner female power trio L.A. Machina.
Never content to let the grass grow under her feet, Suzi Moon is back with her first solo release.
Call The Shots consists of three self-penned songs which establish her as an artist well worth keeping an eye out for.
Suzi shows her versatility by handling bass and guitar, as well as lead vocals.
Joining her in her band are former Death Valley Girls/L.A. Machina drummer Rikki Styxx, and Drew Champion of Washington D.C. punks The Split Seconds on lead guitar.
The first track, Special Place In Hell, is a hard-hitting opener, full of the kind of attitude which made Joan Jett such an icon. It was released as the first single from the EP.
Next up is I’m Not A Man, which tips a nod more to the proto-punk of MC5/The Stooges. Stamped with Suzi’s distinctive vocals, it’s my favourite of the three tracks here.
Bringing up the rear is Nuthin’ To Me, another hard-rocking blast of energy confirming Suzi’s knack of making foot-to-the-floor punk rock ‘n’ roll.
