Former Civet guitarist Suzi Moon has shared the first single from her forthcoming debut solo EP.
Special Place In Hell comes with its own video, and is a teaser for Call The Shots, out on May 21.
Moon, who was in popular all-female band Civet, recently signed to LA-based Pirates Press Records as a solo artist.
“The inspiration for the video comes from a 1965 Roman Polanski horror film called Repulsion,” she says. “It’s one of my favorites, and I have always wanted to pay homage to the movie in my own way.”
Part of Moon’s intent is to illustrate her attempts to balance her time and presence on social media.
“Especially in today’s times, when most of what artists do is online, there are these moments when you are dressing up and getting ready for ‘showtime’ online.
“It’s not very satisfying when you turn off the camera at the end of the night and haven’t received any real physical connection.
Balancing act
“It can feel a bit empty, wanting more. Balancing Suzi at home, baking bread in her sweatpants, and Suzi online and in performance mode.”
Filming during a pandemic was a new challenge for Moon and director Eric Schraeder. But that didn’t stop them realising their artistic vision for the video, getting creative with lights, edits, and scenery.
Suzi Moon‘s been on the scene for 15 years, in Civet and Turbulent Hearts, but wanted to go it alone.
“Songwriting is my passion and I really wanted to own that moving forward, so going solo was a totally natural progression.
“It just took some time for me to be ready. It’s a little bit scary, but here I am, unapologetically Suzi Moon, puttin’ it all on the line for everyone that’ll listen!”
Before long, Moon will be back where she’s most comfortable – on stage, microphone in hand and a spotlight on her.
