Punk trio Death Trails, from Blackpool and Preston in North-West England, are getting set to release a series of singles over the next few months.
Formed in 2019, Catlow (vocals/guitar), Luke (vocals/bass) and Muss (drums) describe themselves as “a mixture of genders, ethnicities, sexualities and voices coming together to create dual vocal melodic chaos”.
The trio had played a few gigs and were just starting to get things together when Covid-19 intervened. The first song they released was a demo of their track Animal, in April 2020.
Recorded just before lockdown, it’s available as a ‘pay what you want’ download from their Bandcamp page HERE. It’s a pacy slice of melodic punk, with Catlow and Luke sharing vocals as they sing about the differences in people.
Despite the fact they haven’t been able to go out and gig for the past year, the trio have continued to play live-streamed sets from local venues. They’ve also managed to self-produce four singles, which will be drip-fed onto major streaming platforms over the next few months.
Every sub-genre of punk is explored in the Death Trails sound, which reaches from ska to hardcore and beyond, and that’s evident in their debut single Ska Dad, which will be released on April 12.
It’s an upbeat tune on which Luke takes lead vocals, and it’s a song which is sure to get the pit jumping when we’re all allowed to gather in sweaty little venues again.
It will be followed on May 12 by Mamma’s Got Old, which sees Catlow lead from the front, and it’s a catchy slice of melodic punk about childhood memories.
They might be a new band, but all three members of punk trio Death Trails have been in other bands; Catlow most recently in now-defunct Blackpool band The Poly-Esters, Luke in grunge-punks Kraul and Muss in genre-crossing Preston outfit Honour Roots.
