The Offspring have made their move in a bid to claim back their crown as the world’s number one punk band, with news of a long-awaited new album.
The So-Cal legends – one of the bands credited with bringing punk rock back into the mainstream in the ’90s – today announced their 10th studio record, Let The Bad Times Roll.
It’s their first new album in nine years, and will be released on Friday, April 16 on Concord Records, with pre-orders being taken now HERE. The title track was shared today as the lead single.
The Offspring were formed in Garden Grove, California, in 1984, and along with the likes of Green Day, Rancid, Bad Religion, NOFX, Pennywise and Jawbreaker, are credited with reviving punk.
Their commercial breakthrough came in 1994 when third album Smash became the first album on Epitaph Records to obtain gold and then platinum status, going on to sell 11 million copies.
The success continued after they switched to major label Columbia in 1996: strong sales for Ixnay On The Hombre (1997), Americana (1998), Conspiracy Of One (2000), Splinter (2003), Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace (2008) and Days Go By (2012) mean they have now shifted more than 40 million albums.
The Offspring’s current line-up consists of lead vocalist Dexter Holland, guitarist Noodles, drummer Pete Parada and bassist Todd Morse. They released two standalone tracks in 2020 – an over-the-top cover of Joe Exotic’s Hey Kitty Kitty and a rendition of Darlene Love’s classic Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).
Frontman Holland describes the new album as “the most cathartic thing we’ve done. The messages might be dark, but at the end what’s left is that communication is important, working through feelings is important and most of all, hope is important.”
The band began teasing new material on their social media accounts last week, and released the title track as a single today, as the first taste of the new record.
