Californian skatepunks Chaser have released a music video for a storming new single, A New Direction.
The band, who were established in 2000 in the heart of the SoCal scene, have made a name for themselves playing fast, catchy and melodic skate-punk.
A New Direction is a blast of timely, politically-charged punk rock, and follows on the heels of their single 2020, which has been getting major spins on Sirius XM’s Faction.
The message behind the new single is a clear call-out of some of the problems left behind in the US by the outgoing Trump administration: “The water’s rising, the debts are unpaid/We’re left to clean the messes you’ve made.”
Comprising Mike LeDonne (vocals), Jesse Stopnitzky (bass/vocals), Bill Hockmuth (guitar) and Davey Guy (drums), Chaser’s love of punk rock is clear, and hope their voice will make a difference.
Jesse said: “Growing up in the ’90s, no sound has struck a chord for us like the Fat [Wreck] and Epitaph-era punk bands.
“Although the scene continues to evolve, we stick to what we love most about this genre … catchy melodies, anthemic choruses, passionate lyrical content and, as always, a beat that has you rushing for the pit.”
They have four albums to their name, the most recent being 2018’s Sound The Sirens.
Last year saw them release the digital Look Alive EP in September, with all profits donated to non-profit organisations, and a cover of Bad Religion’s Skyscraper, in November.
A New Direction and 2020 were both released on Chaser’s new label, Montreal-based Thousand Islands Records, with a new album in the offing.
