Self-styled punk witches Dream Nails have released a modern-day classic of a Christmas song to round off a busy year.

Lonely Star (Christmas Song) features bassist Mimi Jasson on piano, with the band taking inspiration from the songbooks of Phil Spector and Weezer to write their own punk Christmas soundtrack, with a heart.

“This Christmas is going to be a bit different from the usual,” admits guitarist Anya Pearson, “so we wrote a Christmas song that sends strength and love to anyone finding this time of year particularly tough – especially those who are LGBT or struggling with acceptance and support at home. We see you, we’re here for you and we love you!”

Proceeds from the single on Bandcamp will be going to The Outside Project. If you would like to donate, you can do so HERE in exchange for a download of the track.

Mimi explains: “With government failures to respond to the pandemic adequately, we feel strongly about raising money for The Outside Project, the UK’s first LGBTIQ+ crisis/homeless shelter and community centre – proceeds from this release will go to them.”

The organisation explains its situation over the holidays: “Our shelter and refuge will remain open over Christmas while the majority of homelessness services are shut down. We wouldn’t be able to do this without the support of our community, friends, family and allies.

“We’re thrilled that Dream Nails have chosen us as beneficiaries of their Christmas single. We couldn’t have hoped for a better Christmas anthem this year!”

Dream Nails will be giving Lonely Star (Christmas Song) its first live airing at their special festive live-streamed Feministmas gig on December 6. All their gig-in-a-boxes for the event have now sold out, but pay-what-you-can tickets are still available HERE.

“We are especially excited to be celebrating the release of this song at our Feministmas livestream,” says Mimi. “After another lockdown near the holidays where we can’t physically come together, it’s important for us to have a space where we can keep in touch as a global punk community!”

Dream Nails are feminist activists Janey Starling (vocals), Anya Pearson (guitar and backing vocals), Mimi Jasson (bass and backing vocals) and Lucy Katz (drums and backing vocals).

Founded in London in 2015, they mix unapologetically political content with pure pop-punk joy. They released their self-titled album (reviewed here) this year, though their plans to tour it were ruined by the pandemic.
