Folk-punk legends The Levellers were today announced as the headliners for Kubix Festival as it returns to Sunderland in 2020 for the third successive year.
The band, who enjoyed a string of hits throughout the ‘90s and early ‘00s with songs such as One Way, Just The One and This Garden, will top the bill at Herrington Country Park on Saturday 11 July 2020.
Formed in 1988, The Levellers were once the most popular indie band in Britain, culminating in a record breaking headline appearance at Glastobury in 1994 when they played to a crowd of 300,000 people – a record which stands to this day.
There won’t be quite that many at Kubix, but the thousands of music fans who do go can expect nothing less than a fantastic set from a band who are perfect for festivals.
The 2020 Kubix line-up aso includes New Model Army, The Selecter and The Wedding Present on the main stage, plus Gang of Four, Holy Moly & The Crackers, Death of Guitar Pop and Duncan Reid & the Big Heads on the second stage.
The previous day, Friday 10 July, will see Kubix celebrate the best of ‘80s and ‘90s pop, with acts already confirmed including Vengaboys, N-Trance, Smoove & Turrell and Vandebilt.
More acts are still to be announced for both days, and a limited number of special discounted early bird tickets for either day or the whole weekend are available now from the Kubix website HERE.
This year, for the first time, weekend camping tickets are available for fans wanting to enjoy both days of music, within sight of the famous Penshaw Monument.
Kubix Festival began in 2018 as an effort by a group of local promoters to delivery top- quality entertainment at a price that won’t hurt your pocket.
The first festival included Ronan Keating, B*Witched, Peter Andre, Right Said Fred, East 17, Adam Ant, Boomtown Rats, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Peter Hook & the Light, and Buzzcocks, among others.
This year’s Friday line-up included Outhere Brothers, Five, Snap!, S Club and Technotronic on the Friday, and The Stranglers, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Farm, Peter Hook and the Light, Cast, Black Grape and The Alarm on the Saturday.
For 2020 the organisers are planning to double the number of bars, and on-site parking will remain free, with cheap shuttle buses running from a number of locations if you prefer to leave the car at home.
