newtown neurotics

Essex punk legends Newtown Neurotics have today announced a new album and a UK tour to go with it.

Formed in Harlow in 1979, the band are best known for their single Living With Unemployment (which bears more than a passing resemblance to The Members’ Solitary Confinement!).

They split in 1988 but were reformed by lead singer and guitarist Steve Drewett in 2006 and have remained a going concern ever since.

Drewett is joined in the latest line-up of the band by Adam Smith on bass and original drummer Simon Lomond.

A new single, Climate Emergency, is out now and they will release the album Cognitive Dissidents on CD and orange vinyl via Cadiz Music on October 21, with a tour to follow.

If ever the time was right for a band who released a single called Kick Out The Tories to hit the road again to spread their socialist message, it’s now.

Following an incendiary set at Rebellion Festival last month, they are set to take their music and message across the country, with songs from the forthcoming album joining landmarks from their past.

Over the years, Newtown Neurotics have released five albums and eight singles, including the eerily predictive When The Oil Runs Out and the majestic Mindless Violence.

New album Cognitive Dissidents is a play on the term ‘cognitive dissonance’, describing people who wilfully reject hard evidence over what they ‘feel’.

Written and recorded while in lockdown, the Neurotics’ music remains always uplifting and never downtrodden, and is full of melodies that stir the head, the heart, and the soul.
