Punk duo Soft Play – the band formerly known as Slaves – have today announced their first headline tour in six years.
Isaac Holman (vocals, drums) and Laurie Vincent (guitar, bass backing vocals) will release their new album Heavy Jelly on 19 July.
Now they have announced a headline tour to accompany the release, as well as festival dates at Download and Glastonbury this month.
Former Slaves
Formed in Royal Tunbridge Wells in 2012, they were known as Slaves until 2022, when they changed their name due to its unwanted connotations.
Heavy Jelly will be their first album as Soft Play, and their first since 2018’s Acts Of Love And Fear, which gave Slaves their third consecutive Top 10.
They have trailed four singles from the new record – Act Violently, Mirror Muscles, Punk’s Dead and Everything And Nothing.
The Heavy Jelly tour is set to ignite venues across the country before culminating with a very special Halloween show at the O2 Academy Brixton – with fancy dress very much encouraged.
Recent gigs – including headline sets at 2000trees, Bearded Theory and a rammed sold-out show at the Electric Brixton – have shown that Soft Play have upped the ante following their return, both in terms of raw power and mischievous humour.
In the meantime, Soft Play are hitting the festival circuit, starting tomorrow at Download before playing Glastonbury’s Other Stage on June 30
They’re also confirmed for Tramlines, Truck, Y NOT?, Boardmasters, Bludfest and Victorious in the UK, plus Rock For People (Czechia) and Pohoda (Slovakia).
