Rising cross-genre punk band Millie Manders and The Shut Up have announced a release date for their long-awaited second album.
Wake Up, Shut Up, Work will be released on 2 August – the day before they return to Rebellion Punk Festival in Blackpool, where they’re always one of the highlights of the weekend.
The record is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to their excellent 2020 debut Telling Truths, Breaking Ties (reviewed here), which marked them out as ones to watch in the DIY punk scene.
Since then they have developed their craft with some blistering live shows and a string of digital releases, including a cover of Little Mix’s Sweet Melody.
Their latest release is their first-ever 7in vinyl single, which pairs two new songs, Angry Side and Can I Get Off?
It acts as a trailer for their 14-date Angry Side UK tour, which kicks off in Colchester tonight and ends in London on 16 May. Supports for the tour are Voodoo Radio and All Ears Avow.
Both songs are on the new album, along with previous singles Rebound, Shut Your Mouth and One That Got Away, which are already firmly established in MMATSU’s live set.
Their high octane live shows win them new fans every time they perform, and like all good artists they have a strong social conscience too, with special merch regularly benefiting their chosen charities.

Talking about the new album, Millie Manders said: “Our sophomore album has been so much more collaborative as a band, and it’s been a really wonderful process in terms of expansion and evolution of our sound while maintaining a lot of what we have already put out on Telling Truths, Breaking Ties.
“It’s also been a great opportunity to bond as musicians, writing in rooms together in blocks over the last year or so.

With grinding guitars, huge pop appeal and personal lyrics, the band explore themes of loss, betrayal, anxiety, heartbreak, environmental concerns and political unrest.
