{"id":9545,"date":"2023-08-15T18:43:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-15T17:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipamusic.co.uk\/?p=9545"},"modified":"2023-08-24T18:57:32","modified_gmt":"2023-08-24T17:57:32","slug":"the-menzingers-announce-seventh-studio-album-some-of-it-was-true","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipamusic.co.uk\/?p=9545","title":{"rendered":"The Menzingers announce seventh studio album Some Of It Was True"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Philadelphia punks The Menzingers have announced a release date for their next studio album, <em>Some Of It Was True.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The record, their seventh, will be released digitally via Epitaph Records on 13 October, with physical versions to follow on 26 January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The band had already <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ipamusic.co.uk\/?p=9458\">released a taster<\/a><\/strong> for the album with the excellent single <em>There\u2019s No Place In This World For Me<\/em> last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now they&#8217;ve dropped lead single <em>Hope is a Dangerous Little Thing<\/em> and ended the waiting for their legions of devoted fans by announcing the album release date too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Menzingers - &quot;Hope is a Dangerous Little Thing&quot;\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DrrxeRWebqw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Clash-referencing title of the album is no surprise &#8211; they covered <em>Death Or Glory<\/em> on their most recent UK dates &#8211; and I&#8217;m hoping for a return visit based around the physical release date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vocalist and guitarist Greg Barnett said: \u201cWritten over the last two and a half years in hotels, backstages, basements, and rehearsal rooms and recorded during a life-changing retreat down south, <em>Some Of It Was True<\/em> is the most realized version of what we set out to do when we started this band 17 years ago &#8211; seventh album.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the release of the band\u2019s last studio album, 2019\u2019s <em>Hello Exile<\/em> (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ipamusic.co.uk\/?p=1108\">reviewed here<\/a><\/strong>), The Menzingers presented an acoustic re-working of the record, <em>From Exile<\/em> (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ipamusic.co.uk\/?p=4458\">reviewed here<\/a><\/strong>), in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Barnett released his debut solo album, <em>Don\u2019t Go Throwing Roses In My Grave<\/em>, to rave reviews<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ipamusic.co.uk\/?p=7566\"> (read ours here<\/a><\/strong>) in 2022, and this was around the time <em>Some Of It Was True<\/em> started to come together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The foursome took off to El Paso, Texas, to record at the legendary Sonic Ranch, with producer Brad Cook helping accomplish the daunting task of capturing The Menzingers\u2019 live energy within the confines of a studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cook says: \u201cThe Menzingers are as real as it gets. I had an absolute blast working with these guys and was moved to tears many times. They are truly dedicated to artistic growth, and to each other, in ways I found both refreshing and beautiful. I am now a lifer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Co-vocalist and guitarist Tom May said: \u201cBrad massively changed the way we were approaching the record. Pic: Gary Welford.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lyrically, <em>Some Of It Was True<\/em> is a showcase for how the band\u2019s songwriting has expanded beyond their personal experiences, drawing from what\u2019s happening around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acknowledging that they\u2019re in a very different place from when they formed in 2008, this album embraces change. \u201cThis record just feels different for us,\u201d says Barnett. \u201cIt\u2019s a really important one in our catalog, and a pivotal moment in our history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We have the liberty of our fans growing with us now, and after writing these lyrical songs about where we are in life, we decided to take other people&#8217;s stories and make something bigger out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Menzingers are Greg Barnett (vocals, guitar), Tom May (vocals, guitar), Eric Keen (bass), and Joe Godino (drums).
