{"id":8979,"date":"2023-04-20T18:14:16","date_gmt":"2023-04-20T17:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipamusic.co.uk\/?p=8979"},"modified":"2023-04-20T18:14:18","modified_gmt":"2023-04-20T17:14:18","slug":"benefits-share-new-single-what-more-do-you-want-as-they-prepare-to-release-debut-album-nails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipamusic.co.uk\/?p=8979","title":{"rendered":"Benefits share new single What More Do You Want as they prepare to release debut album Nails"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teesside&#8217;s incendiary hardcore noise-makers Benefits have released another taste of their eagerly-awaited debut album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Nails <\/em>is due out on 21 April on Invada Records (home to Billy Nomates and BEAK> among others), and a video for new single <em>What More Do You Want<\/em> has today been released as the latest teaser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The track follows the release of the album\u2019s lead single <em>Warhorse<\/em>, a pummelling yet danceable track described by frontman Kingsley Hall as \u201can iron fist in a velvet glove&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Warhorse <\/em>ignited the fuse for the album\u2019s release in late February, earning plaudits from the band&#8217;s fanbase, as well as landing a daytime playlisting from BBC Radio 6 Music, and attracting an avalanche of press coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>What More Do You Want<\/em> is inspired by the band\u2019s live improvisations, with Hall recording the vocals without any accompaniment or backing as a performance poem before sending it to the band to perform over, with the only instruction being that it needed to build in intensity.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/benefits-pic-by-michael-sreenan.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" alt=\"benefits\" class=\"wp-image-8981\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/benefits-pic-by-michael-sreenan.jpg?w=900&amp;ssl=1 900w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/benefits-pic-by-michael-sreenan.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/benefits-pic-by-michael-sreenan.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Benefits frontman Kingsley Hall. Pic by Michael Sreenan.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The result is a tense and powerful track which builds into a crushing cacophony of noise around Hall\u2019s lyrics about toxic patriotism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The single is accompanied by a video which sees the band in a derelict building among union jack flags, British party foods, and celebratory decorations, which they destroy as the track develops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Benefits - What More Do You Want\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Waa0rxSMfiQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hall said: &#8220;It&#8217;s about the corruption of power and the nagging possibility that things weren&#8217;t necessarily better in the old days, despite what everyone says, and how harking back to them may not bring you the glory you desire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It&#8217;s one of the noisiest songs we&#8217;ve ever constructed, completely designed with a brutal sonic impact in mind. Dale&#8217;s drums clang and clatter in a really beautiful way, they&#8217;re harsh and heavy but there&#8217;s a melody to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Hugh and Robbie hurl giant slabs of noise into the mix and it all builds to be a monster. Despite the chaos, this is probably Benefits in our purest, noisiest form.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Benefits begin a headline UK tour to promote Nails on 21 April, followed
