{"id":8861,"date":"2023-02-22T17:37:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-22T17:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipamusic.co.uk\/?p=8861"},"modified":"2023-03-20T17:39:51","modified_gmt":"2023-03-20T17:39:51","slug":"shit-present-announce-long-awaited-debut-album-what-still-gets-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipamusic.co.uk\/?p=8861","title":{"rendered":"Shit Present announce long-awaited debut album What Still Gets Me"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bristol indie-pop-punk band <strong>Shit Present<\/strong> have announced a release date for their long-awaited debut album, which has been seven years in the making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>What Still Gets Me<\/em> will be released via Specialist Subject on 5 May, with new single <em>Voice In Your Head<\/em> out now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s the second song trailed from the new record, after a new era for the trio was heralded at the end of January by the arrival of bold new single <em>Fuck It<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"SHIT PRESENT - Voice In Your Head\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VbOt5-JAgKI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Represses of their first EPs, <em>Shit Present<\/em> (2015) and <em>Misery + Disaster<\/em> (2016) are also coming in March and are available to pre-order <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/specialistsubjectrecords.co.uk\/\">HERE<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The releases garnered acclaim for front person Iona Cairns\u2019 fervent vocals, exploring themes of anxiety, depression and solitude. <em>While What Still Gets Me<\/em> doesn\u2019t shy away from these heavier topics, there\u2019s more of a playful feel, a kind of comfort among the chaos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI was trying to let my 13-year-old self out, the one that loved all the embarrassing pop-punk,\u201d Cairns explains. She had been creating for as long as she could remember, so this stagnant period felt like she would never get it back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was the result of a hospitalisation, and coming to terms with mental health issues which eventaully saw her diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Then, without any epiphany or grand catalyst, she picked up the guitar again and began writing what would become their first full-length album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe first song on this album was the first song I wrote after that period in 2019,\u201d she explains. \u201cI realised that it still felt good; I do want to write an album.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<div
