The Teeth debut album marks them out as ones to watch"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">ALBUM REVIEW: Jo-Jo &amp; The Teeth &#8211; No More Good News <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">(self-released)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jo-Jo is Canadian singer Jo-Jo Donoghue, and The Teeth are the latest incarnation of reborn 1970s punks Eater, including founder member Andy Blade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is their debut album, and it&#8217;s a riff-filled record which mixes good old-fashioned pop hooks with blues, glam, rock &#8216;n&#8217; roll and just a smidgeon of punk attitude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They cite influences ranging from Queen, Ramones and Fleetwood Mac to the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith, but Jo-Jo&#8217;s voice is a very individual one indeed.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Jo-Jo-the-Teeth-LIVE.jpg?resize=640%2C730\" alt=\"Jo-Jo &amp; The Teeth.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beneath the over-the-top make-up lies a very powerful singer, and over the 10 tracks of this self-produced album, the band offer enough to suggest they could become a very big noise indeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Things kick off with the single <em>My Babe<\/em>, which showcases Jo-Jo&#8217;s vocals perfectly, and it&#8217;s followed by another single, the title track <em>No More Good News<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Jo-Jo-The-Teeth-live-3.jpg?resize=640%2C959\" alt=\"Jo-Jo &amp; The Teeth.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>HellHound<\/em>, which seems to be about depression, is a mid-tempo bluesy number, while <em>Moonchild <\/em>slows things down even further, showing there&#8217;s more to JJ&amp;TT than in-your-face bangers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For me there are two standout songs here, the yearning <em>Lungs<\/em>, and <em>Don&#8217;t Get Too Heavy<\/em>, another single, whose chorus of &#8220;Dream on, dreamweavers&#8221; will be in your head for days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jo-Jo has a hell of a set of pipes, but needs to tone it down occasionally; the breathy <em>Animals<\/em>, for example, has too many vocal affectations for my liking, which makes it sound a bit X Factor-y.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jo-Jo &amp; The Teeth - Don&#039;t Get Too Heavy - Official Music Video\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_JwC2Iv7KcE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The closing <em>Oh Brother<\/em>, with Jo-Jo&#8217;s voice front and centre over gentle acoustic backing instead of having to be heard over a maelstrom, offers a welcome change of pace and shows another side to her talents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be fair, she could probably sing the phone book and make it sound good, and she certainly marks herself out as one to watch on this enjoyable debut offering. <strong>7.5\/10.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ALBUM REVIEW: Jo-Jo &amp;
