Pic: Gary Welford.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Slalom D are an unashamedly political band who nail their colours firmly to the mast; left-wing, anti-fascist, opinionated, humanitarian &#8211; everything a good punk band should be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This album, a year in the making, is full of huge guitar riffs, bludgeoning drums and driving bass, and sets their stall out perfectly for anyone who&#8217;s never heard the band before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">Wall of noise<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guitarist Gary Roberts, Tony Lindstedt on bass and Iain Murray on drums kick up a wall of noise that&#8217;s hard to ignore, but there&#8217;s plenty of melody here, and they&#8217;ll soon have your foot tapping along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Phil Jackson, who recorded and produced the album at The Bunker in Sunderland, has made a superb job of capturing their live sound &#8211; think Dead Kennedys meets Killing Joke and you&#8217;re not far off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"449\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/slalom-d-3.jpg?resize=640%2C449\" alt=\"slalom d\" class=\"wp-image-4798\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/slalom-d-3-scaled.jpg?resize=1024%2C719&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/slalom-d-3-scaled.jpg?resize=300%2C211&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/slalom-d-3-scaled.jpg?resize=768%2C540&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/slalom-d-3-scaled.jpg?resize=1536%2C1079&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/slalom-d-3-scaled.jpg?resize=2048%2C1439&amp;ssl=1 2048w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/slalom-d-3-scaled.jpg?w=1280 1280w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/slalom-d-3-scaled.jpg?w=1920 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption><strong>Slalom D singer Fiona Duncan at Trillians in Newcastle. There&#8217;s real feeling as Fe sings: &#8220;It&#8217;s 10 o&#8217; clock in the evening, and I&#8217;m standing where you should be&#8221;. The chorus of &#8220;I thought I saw you today, walking through the town&#8221; will strike a chord with anyone struggling to come to terms with the loss of a loved one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Step Out Of Line<\/em>, about the refugee crisis which has seen dead babies washed up from the Med, is possibly the best track here (though that changes every time I listen to the album). Pic: Gary Welford.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>G.L.A.M.<\/em>, another contender for standout track, addresses the issue of women&#8217;s safety, and is particularly poignant in the wake of Sarah Everard&#8217;s murder and other recent cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In truth, there&#8217;s not a weak link among the 11 tracks, and I&#8217;ve been playing this album non-stop since I picked up a copy when Slalom D supported The Rezillos at the Cluny (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ipamusic.co.uk\/?p=6808\">reviewed here<\/a><\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can get your hands on one from Slalom D&#8217;s Bandcamp page <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/slalomd2.bandcamp.com\/\">HERE<\/a><\/strong> or better still, go to one of their gigs.
