Psychedelic punk duo The Lovely Eggs<\/a><\/strong> are emerging from lockdown with a new single featuring punk legend Iggy Pop.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

I, Moron <\/em>will be released via their own Egg Records on July 9 as a limited edition yellow 7in single.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They hope it will recapture the momentum of recent album, I Am Moron<\/em>, which got derailed by the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chart topper<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The record, which many critics regard as The Lovely Eggs’ best yet (our review is here<\/a><\/em><\/strong>), topped the indie charts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But their plans to tour it were scuppered, with the dates having to be rescheduled at least five times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than a year later, The Lovely Eggs have yet to play the new album live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But they did make a new fan in Iggy Pop, who’s been playing The Lovely Eggs on his 6 Music show.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now they’ve announce a collaboration with the godfather of punk for new song, I, Moron<\/em>, which isn’t on the album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBeing in The Lovely Eggs we\u2019re kind of used to surreal experiences, but collaborating with Iggy Pop takes the biscuit,\u201d says singer\/guitarist Holly Ross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surreal experiences<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s actually unbelievable. For him just to say nothing but \u201cmoron\u201d over and over again fitted in with the sentiment of the song perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He just GOT it. We are all morons. In a world of moronic things. In a world of moronic ideas. You are moron. I am Moron. We are Moron.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In homage to Iggy, the B-side features The Lovely Eggs’ take on Dum Dum Boys<\/em> from his 1977 album The Idiot<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor the B-side it made real sense to us to cover one of Iggy\u2019s songs off The Idiot<\/em>, says drummer David Blackwell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere seemed to be a real synchronicity to it. I had this album on cassette, and it was one of the first albums that I got really into.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Striking a chord<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

“Dum Dum Boys<\/em> struck a chord with us, kind of missing the old days and the old gang we used to hang out with.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The single will feature artwork (featuring a three-headed Iggy\/Eggy beast) by the brilliant Casey Raymond, and is a limited edition of 1,000 yellow vinyl 7in singles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lovely Eggs hope to start gigging again on Thursday, July 8, at Metronome in Nottingham, followed by eight more dates ths summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
