three tracks of fast, angry\nhardcore punk with a technical twist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now\nwe get their debut full-length, which is a genre-blurring collection\nof 10 furious slices of politically-motivated punk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Released\nby Manchester-based DIY label TNS in conjunction with 5 Feet Under\nRecords in Denmark, it sees them mixing melodic hardcore with prog,\nska and even elements of jazz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s\nraw, it&#8217;s visceral, and is certainly not for the faint-hearted, but\nthey couldn&#8217;t pull this off if they weren&#8217;t extremely accomplished\nplayers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"389\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/follow-your-dreams.jpg?resize=640%2C389\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3299\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/follow-your-dreams.jpg?resize=1024%2C622&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/follow-your-dreams.jpg?resize=300%2C182&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/follow-your-dreams.jpg?resize=768%2C466&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/follow-your-dreams.jpg?resize=1536%2C933&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/follow-your-dreams.jpg?resize=2048%2C1244&amp;ssl=1 2048w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/follow-your-dreams.jpg?w=1280 1280w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/follow-your-dreams.jpg?w=1920 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption><strong>Follow Your Dreams.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And\nin Kaz they&#8217;ve found a vocalist who is transformed from a\nsoftly-spoken self-confessed crazy cat lady into a screaming whirling\ndervish when she picks up a microphone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nHalf-Life of Teaspoons&nbsp;sees FYD combine the fury and urgency of\nDIY punk and hardcore with an experimental edge, using effects\npedals, and featuring lots of varied time signatures and dissonance. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The album opens with lead single Maggots, which sounds like a slightly scuzzed-up version of arena rockers Muse until Kaz&#8217;s ferocious vocals kick in at 1:06.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rinse And Repeat, one of the tracks from that first EP, is a good example of the shades of light and dark which are everywhere, going from bludgeoning hardcore to whimsical pop, and then back again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube aligncenter wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Follow Your Dreams - Maggots\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4vkTzr5XfEo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fuck\nThis is a list of things to be angry about (and it&#8217;s an extensive\none, including warmongers and Tony Blair), while their prog-punk\nnever gets more varied than on Not Your Meat, where thrash metal and\nmelodic hardcore collide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Knock\nKnock introduces trumpet to the heady mix, and there are some frankly\nbonkers time changes on the stop-start Who&#8217;s There? Depression, but\nnot nearly as many as on the never-more-proggy closer Pushing\nButtons, which, at nearly five minutes, is the longest track here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you like a bit of harmony in your punk, I&#8217;d avoid this like the plague; if you like blistering noise combined with outrageous experimentalism and multiple time changes then it&#8217;s probably right up your street.
