The Beat, one of the key bands of the 2-Tone ska movement, are hitting the road to celebrate the 40th<\/sup> anniversary of their debut album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Formed\nin 1978 in Birmingham, they were an integral part of the ska revival\nspearheaded by the likes of The Specials, Madness, The Selecter, and\nBad Manners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their\ndebut single Tears Of A Clown went to No. 6 in the UK national\ncharts, and now they are back to celebrate the 40th<\/sup>\nanniversary of their iconic first album, I Just Can’t Stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\ntour marks the first time founding vocalist Dave Wakeling has\nperformed as The Beat in more than 25 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously,\nthe singer, who lives in the United States, fronted The English Beat,\nwith co-vocalist Ranking Roger helming a separate UK version of the\nband, until his untimely death last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back\nin the day, The Beat were major players in the 2-Tone explosion which\nchanged British pop music forever. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They\nreleased three albums and toured worldwide with acts such as The\nClash, The Police, REM, Talking Heads and David Bowie. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\nJust Can\u2019t Stop went to No. 3 in the UK national charts, and\nprovided hit singles including Mirror In the Bathroom, Hands\nOff…She’s Mine and Can’t Get Used To Losing You.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second\nalbum Wha’ppen?, which began to explore other styles of music, also\nreached No. 3, while their swansong Special Beat Service just missed\nthe Top 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nBeat disbanded in 1983 but left a fine musical legacy, which was\ncelebrated in later years by both The Beat and The English Beat, who\nboth toured and released new music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now\nska-lovers can get with The Beat again as Wakeling takes his band on\nthe \u2026Still Can\u2019t Stop It UK tour this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
