Local heroes THE FUTUREHEADS<\/strong> have today been\nannounced as Saturday\u2019s Marquee Stage headliners for Kubix Festival <\/strong>2020 in Sunderland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The Futureheads will headline the Marquee Stage at Kubix Festival 2020.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The post-punk band recently returned after a six-year hiatus with a new album (reviewed here<\/strong><\/a>) and a string of live shows, and are delighted to be asked to play their hometown festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barry Hyde from\nthe band said: \u201cMe and the lads are delighted to be playing Kubix Festival at\nHerrington Country Park next year. We love hometown shows, but combining that\nwith a superb local festival is a dream come true. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe festival is\ngoing from strength to strength, and knowing what it takes to do that, through\norganising Split Festival, we take our hats off to the team that organise it,\nand also look forward greatly to throwing down some serious guitar riffs!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And, with the\nline-up already shaping up to be the best in the event\u2019s short history, the\norganisers have also today revealed that Irish indie-rock outfit ASH<\/strong> have been added to next year\u2019s\nbill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band, who have enjoyed two No. 1 albums as well as a string of hit singles like Girl From Mars and Burn Baby Burn, are celebrating their 25th<\/sup> anniversary next year<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also confirmed\nfor the Marquee Stage are electro-dub reggae band DREADZONE<\/strong>, from London. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The promoters\nsay the latest additions mean Kubix\nFestival<\/strong>, which returns to Herrington Country Park in Sunderland in 2020\nfor a third year, will be the best yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spokesman for the\norganisers said: \u201cWe started Kubix to bring the very best live music to our\nregion at incredible value ticket prices, and the support from the music-loving\npublic has been fantastic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re working really hard\nto establish this event and make it a permanent regular on the North East\u2019s music\ncalendar.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first day, Friday, July 10, will\nsee Kubix celebrate the best of \u201880s and \u201890s pop, with acts already confirmed\nincluding Vengaboys<\/strong>, N-Trance<\/strong>, East 17, Blow\nMonkeys, D;Ream, Smoove & Turrell <\/strong>and Vandebilt<\/strong>,\nwith many more to be announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday, July 11 sees the\nattention switch to alternative and indie acts, and with today\u2019s additions the\nline-up is almost complete, with one more big name yet to be announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Saturday Main\nStage headliners are The Levellers<\/strong>, with\nNew Model Army<\/strong>, Ash<\/strong>, Cast<\/strong>, The\nSelecter<\/strong>,\nThe Wedding Present, <\/strong>and<\/strong> Wilko Johnson <\/strong>preceding\nthem. One other big-name act is yet to be announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Marquee Stage,\nwhich will be much bigger than previous years, will showcase appearances by The Futureheads,<\/strong> Gang of Four<\/strong>, Dreadzone<\/strong>, The Farm,<\/strong> Holy\nMoly & The Crackers<\/strong>, Death\nof Guitar Pop, Duncan Reid & the Big Heads <\/strong>and<\/strong>\nCrashed Out.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A limited number of early bird tickets for both\ndays, priced just \u00a322\nper day (plus booking fee), and weekend tickets are\navailable now from the Kubix website at www.kubixfestival.com\/kubix-tickets\/<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, for the first time, weekend\ncamping tickets are available for fans wanting to enjoy both days of music at\nthe family-friendly festival, which is held within sight of the famous Penshaw\nMonument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kubix Festival began in 2018 as an\neffort by a group of local promoters to delivery top- quality entertainment at\na price that won\u2019t hurt the pocket. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first year included performances by Ronan Keating, B*Witched, Peter Andre, Right Said Fred, East 17, Adam Ant, Boomtown Rats, Fun Lovin\u2019 Criminals, Peter Hook & The Light, and Buzzcocks,<\/strong> among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kubix 2019\u2019s Friday\nline-up included Outhere Brothers, Five, Snap!, S Club and Technotronic on the Friday,\nand The Stranglers, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Farm, Peter Hook & The Light, Cast, Black Grape and The Alarm on the Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For 2020 the organisers are planning to double the\nnumber of bars, and on-site parking will remain free, with cheap shuttle buses\nrunning from a number of locations for those who prefer to leave the car at\nhome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
