SINGLE\nREVIEW: The Blue Carpet Band \u2013 Ain\u2019t Got No Damn Rock \u2018N\u2019 Roll\/Back In The\nTrash (Bomber Music)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Blue Carpet Band<\/strong> are a sleazy garage-rock five-piece from London who it has been my pleasure to catch live a couple of times in the last 18 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first was at Rebellion in Blackpool in\n2018, when I chanced upon them on the Pavilion stage and was enthralled by\nfrontman Djamel Abina, who ended up writhing around stripped to the waist, even\nthough it was the first day of the festival and just gone lunchtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second was in April this year, at the\nBlack Bull in Gateshead, by which time they had a new bass player, Beth, who\nseemed to be the final piece in the jigsaw as they put on an even better\nperformance, absolutely blistering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I left that gig with a copy of their debut album, Rock \u2018N\u2019 Roll Carpet (<\/strong><\/em>check it out on their Bandcamp page here<\/strong><\/em><\/a>)<\/strong><\/em>, and although it\u2019s an enjoyable listen, it didn\u2019t come close to capturing the raw excitement of the band I\u2019d just watched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All that appears to have been rectified with this new release, two new tracks on a 7in single released by Bomber Music<\/strong>, which sound much closer to their electrifying live sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ain\u2019t\nGot No Damn Rock \u2018N\u2019 Roll<\/strong> is a straight-up rollicking 50s-style\nrocker, which bemoans the lack of decent music in a new girlfriend\u2019s record\ncollection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell baby, we got a problem here\/I\u2019ve been\ngoing through your record collection\/I don\u2019t find no Gene Vincent, no Carl Perkins,  no Ritchie Valens, and not even Elvis Presley\n\u2026 you ain\u2019t even got any funk or soul!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Blue Carpet Band single is limited to 500 copies.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Back In the Trash<\/strong> has a tougher sound, reminding me more of \u201870s American bands like Dead Boys<\/strong> (whose Sonic Reducer they cover live), and for me it\u2019s one of the best songs they\u2019ve written so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Blue Carpet Band say they\u2019re on a mission to bring back good real music to the boring mainstream. On this evidence I\u2019d say they\u2019re well on their way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They won Vive le Rock magazine’s ‘best new blood’ award for 2019. They’re booked to play Rebellion again in 2020, but don’t wait until then – get out and see them as soon as you can – you won’t regret it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
