{"id":11898,"date":"2025-02-07T18:45:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-07T18:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ipamusic.co.uk\/?p=11898"},"modified":"2025-04-24T18:57:47","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T17:57:47","slug":"la-hardcore-punks-slaughterhouse-unleash-ferocious-ep-with-their-new-line-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ipamusic.co.uk\/?p=11898","title":{"rendered":"LA hardcore punks Slaughterhouse unleash ferocious EP with their new line-up"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">EP REVIEW: Slaughterhouse &#8211; Sick And Tired (Pirates Press Records)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Slaughterhouse <\/strong>are a four-piece hardcore punk band from Los Angeles, and this is their first EP for Pirates Press Records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There&#8217;s a strong Brody Dalle\/Distillers influence here, and they also sound like a harder version of fellow LA band The Last Gang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Formed in San Pedro in 2018 by bassist Eddie Cairns, guitarist Taylor Ramirez, drummer Miles Gretsky and singer Gaby Ramirez, they released a demo EP that January, but after their first tour Gretsky and Gaby Ramirez left, to be replaced by Nick Aguilar and Veronica Molidor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Pandemic delay<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Slaughterhouse recorded their first album, <em>Fun Factory<\/em>, in early 2020, but its release was delayed until August 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Molidor left Slaughterhouse in March 2023, with Jenna Reynoza of Street Play filling in until new singer Meriel O&#8217;Connell was announced that September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now the new line-up releases its first EP for Pirates Press Records, having previously released a split 7in with like-minded Mexican hardcore types Flores y Fuego.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/slaughterhouse-1024x683.jpg?resize=640%2C427&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11899\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/slaughterhouse.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/slaughterhouse.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/slaughterhouse.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/slaughterhouse.jpg?w=1365&amp;ssl=1 1365w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ipamusic.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/slaughterhouse.jpg?w=1280 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They blaze their own trail while harkening to a period in the early &#8217;80s when hardcore punk and gothic post-punk created an unholy union known as deathrock, with Los Angeles as one of its epicentres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The title track was released as the first single back in December, and it&#8217;s a punchy, powerful song which only hinted at the delights to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The EP opens with <em>DNA<\/em>, a slick slice of raging punk powered by a swaggering, woozy guitar riff. <em>Sick And Tired<\/em> ups the ante even more, with O&#8217;Connell really letting rip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Slaughterhouse - Sick and Tired\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kcs_a2CdIlI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Smiles <\/em>slows things down a bit at first, before exploding into life, while final track <em>Whips And Chains<\/em> explores S&amp;M territory. But the highlight of the record is its centrepiece, an absolutely stunning version of Black Flag&#8217;s 1984 hardcore classic <em>My War<\/em>. They don&#8217;t just cover it, they absolutely own it, suggesting great things to come from this band.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Slaughterhouse&#8217;s <em>Sick And Tired<\/em> EP
