And they\u2019re\nnot wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Citing the likes of <strong>The Clash<\/strong> and <strong>Stiff Little Fingers<\/strong> as influences, they play politically-charged songs packed full of big hooks and choruses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Youens runs the <strong>South London Punk Collective<\/strong> &#8211; a group dedicated to hosting and promoting DIY punk shows. His bandmates in Slow Faction are Kit Gould on drums, Umbi Liszka on bass and Lee Peterson on rhythm guitar, and they have come up with a great slice of political punk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From\nthe off the band rail against the state of Britain today, attacking\nConservative austerity, the unfairness of Universal Credit, the rise of the far\nright, the demonisation of immigrants, and much, much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Title\ntrack <strong>U.D.I.<\/strong> is a\nstate-of-the-nation address, which nails its colours to the mast immediately,\nwith the opening lines: \u201cThey&#8217;ve put this country up for sale&nbsp;\/It used to\nbe worth more\/But now it&#8217;s in the Poundland store.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Blank Generations, <\/strong>a slapdown of the baby boomers who&#8217;ve largely led us into this mess, reminds me of <strong>Goldblade <\/strong>(though that\u2019s no bad thing) and there\u2019s a little nod to The Clash by \u2018borrowing\u2019 the outro from <strong>Safe European Home.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>And Never Said A Word<\/strong>\nexamines the impact of war on those involved, their struggle to cope with what\nthey saw and dealt with, and the affect on their loved ones when they come\nhome.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Things really step up a gear with fourth track <strong>Antifascist<\/strong>, which reminds me of the <strong>Angelic Upstarts<\/strong> at their best, and has a great guitar riff to boot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The target of<strong> The Breitbart Boys<\/strong> is the far-right American news, opinion and commentary website which has given the likes of Donald Trump and Tommy Robinson a voice. It delivers its verdict in no uncertain terms: \u201cFuck off Nazis\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>No Country For The Young <\/strong>contains\none of the best lines of social commentary on the album \u2013 and there are many: \u201cThey\nsay you can judge a nation\/Not from the celebration&nbsp;\/Of its rich and\npowerful&nbsp;\/But how it looks after its poor\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This\nis political punk at its best, not just anger for the sake of it, but\nwell-thought-out analysis of what\u2019s gone wrong with this country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a bonus you get Slow Faction\u2019s take on the <strong>Woody Guthrie<\/strong> song <strong>All You Fascists Bound To Lose<\/strong>, and it\u2019s a perfect fit with what\u2019s gone before. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is an album which I like more with every listen.
